Ready, Set, READ
Ready, Set, READ is a
fun-filled summer enrichment program, for in-coming Kindergartners to
incoming-third graders, developed to enhance reading and writing skills
needed to succeed in the following school year.
Our goal is to get our
campers excited about the up-coming school year and learning as a whole.
We test all of our students on the first day of camp in order to ensure
that they will be challenged at the appropriate levels. We play
educational games that help cultivate a child’s love for learning,
because they are enjoying the activities so much. Your child will also
enjoy making cool crafts daily that build excitement around the theme
embedded in the reading and writing practice. Our two themes this year
are bubbling over with the fun and excitement that will help a child
transition from the beauties of summer vacation to the joyous sparks of
curiosity found when learning.
-
Week 1: August 11-15,
2008 Theme: Summer’s A Super Season
-
Week 2: August 18-22,
2008 Theme: A Pirate’s Adventure
Fee: $165 per week (Payment plans are available.)
BONUS: $10 dollars off if you sign-up for both weeks
Ready, Set, READ t-shirts for all Week 1 campers

your favorite mysteries… See what others are reading… And earn rewards

As always, all programs are free and open to everyone. This program is
sponsored by the County of Los Angeles Public Library and the Friends of
the Hawthorne Libraries.
Farmer's Market is a Big Success
A big fat
"Thank You" to all of Del Aire!
The Farmer's
Market opening was very successful. As with any grand opening, there is
always a lot of hubbub that will normally not be experienced on normal
market days. For the venders to remain motivated and the endeavor to
remain worthwhile for Del Aire, we need a broad customer base.
However, our
only goal is not just money. The Farmer's Market is also a forum
to encourage DEL AIRE RESIDENTS to make use of our own park. We have
built a strong foundation for success. Adjustments do need to be made
and absolutely WILL be made. We will strike a balance between all of the
different needs.
The Del Aire
Neighborhood Association is committed not only to the long-term success
of our market, but preserving the quality of life in Del Aire. So come
out and enjoy Del Aire's very own Farmer's Market with the full
confidence that all of the proceeds will be used to do things that will
make Del Aire an even better place than it already is!
John Koppelman, President
Del Aire Neighborhood Association
Sex Offenders in Del Aire
It has been
brought to our attention that the LAX suites and the Twin Towers Motel
are currently housing 20 sex offenders right here in our neighborhood.
These people are on parole for various
felonies and have been released into the community, some of them with
electronic monitoring. If you would like to help address the growing sex
offender/parolee population in Del Aire, please contact us at
310-531-7111.
Together we can stop Del Aire from becoming a dumping ground for the
department of corrections. Please leave your contact info (phone # and
or E-mail) and we will reply promptly.
Please stay tuned for more information.
Citizens’ Oversight
Committee for Wiseburn Schools
The Wiseburn School board is forming a citizens oversight committee to
ensure that the recent school bond money is being spent properly and
efficiently. Anyone interested can contact Julie Babineau, executive
assistant to Dr. Brann at 310 - 643 - 3025 ext 21.
Those interested will need to meet 4 times a
year with the school board. This is an important function for the
community and the bond process. Any participation will be greatly
appreciated.
Airport News - Noise
Monitoring
The permanent noise monitoring station in
Del Aire is up and running. This station was installed at the request of
the in order to document the noise level in Del Aire of the aircraft at
LAX. This is an important step toward qualifying Del Aire homes for free
sound proofing. Our goal is to get some of the same benefits that our
neighbors to the north and west get. Stay tuned!
Membership Dues
We have
had a very busy year with some difficult challenges to our community.
All the work that is done to protect and better our quality of life is
done entirely by unpaid community volunteers. However, there ARE COSTS.
printing, website, PO.
Box, phone service, legal and regulatory costs etc. These costs are
covered entirely and exclusively by annual $20 membership fee. This, if
you look closely, is probably the best $20 value you will find in a
very long time. So go ahead and join us! Be an active part of improving
your community. Send your check to “Del Aire Neighborhood Assoc.” And
be sure to include your e-mail address so that you will receive our
periodic Del Aire updates. Best Holiday
Wishes from the Del Aire Neighborhood Association.
