Airport Expansion
The main focus of the expansion project
is to reconfigure (expand) the current center taxiway, resulting in
a new 75 foot taxiway. In order to accommodate this, the airport has
begun demolition of the southernmost runway (7R-25L). This runway
will be relocated 55 feet to the South of its current location.
While this runway is closed for construction, all flights will be
diverted to the remaining 3 runways.
The runway relocation phase has
recently begun and the center taxiway expansion is scheduled to
begin in April of 2007. Expected completion date for the entire
project is scheduled for mid 2008.
Due to the diversion of flights to
Northern runways, when flights resume on the new 7R-25L runway,
airport noise will appear to be louder. This is another strong
argument for permanent sound-monitoring equipment within Del Aire.

Jet Noise
On Tuesday July 25th, DNA president,
John Koppelman, attended the first in a series of 3 meetings with
South Airfield Improvement Project [SAIP].
This first meeting focused on
aircraft operations, noise monitoring and mitigation measures. The
following questions regarding Del Aire were asked:
- Why does the 65-decibel noise
contour map take an unlikely turn to narrowly miss Del Aire?
- Is this due to the lack of
sound-monitoring equipment within Del Aire?
- Will LAWA be installing permanent
sound-monitoring equipment in Del Aire?
LAWA’s response was that they will be
expanding the contour out to the 60-decibel noise limit and that
equipment in Del Aire is a possibility.
The next meeting is TBA. We will
update the community through our website and newsletter . . . so
stay tuned! |
