Los Angeles Air Force Base Update

Tony Dauer, December 28, 2004

Do NOT lose an important community asset such as the AIR FORCE BASE by doing nothing about it.  If this base were to close, it is not just a minor part of this area. The "domino" effect would go FAR beyond this minor change in real estate.  Many of the companies might move away that feed tax money into the Wiseburn School District (ours), and this would lower the money our school district gets, causing cuts in staff and programs.  We WILL be getting more students due to the yet to be built apts. on our north end, and more town homes that Hawthorne will have on Aviation, south of Rosecrans. It would be nice if some, or parts of either of these could be used for SENIOR housing, making for less traffic and less children that would need our schools. Otherwise our schools will need expansion and/or more buildings.

Check out the Daily Breeze article in the Tuesday paper on page A 11, (click thumbnail above to view article) that clearly explains how to help. Call 916 323-5485 BY JAN 9th, to be on a list of speakers. The meeting will be at the Hacienda Hotel, 525 N. Sepulveda in El Segundo City. Be ready to explain why the base is important to our community--personally, jobs, convenience of ready location here in the heart of an aerospace and defense companies, etc. No matter how you voted, don't let this important asset be relocated to a "red" state because we didn't appreciate what we have!

Do we have any veterans out there who use the base?

I hate to think of what would happen if the base and nearby companies moved away. What could replace them?
