Housing plan wrong for Del Aire

DAILY BREEZE LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Gee, it's so nice of the El Segundo Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors to vote to put their much-needed housing in Del Aire ("Housing plan gets neighbors stirred up," Monday).

We do not need 450 apartments in our neighborhood. We do not need the added traffic on our streets. We do not need their extra children in our schools. I don't suppose chamber members would be willing to provide school buses to take those children to their schools.

When the California Department of Transportation was ready to unload that property left over from the Century Freeway project, we in Del Aire were told we had a choice of apartments or a business park with a campus-like atmosphere. We didn't want apartments then and we don't want them now. We chose to go with the business park; however, that "campus-like atmosphere" has slowly been eroded over the years.

When they built the Airport Courthouse, they did not include adequate parking, and we have people parking on our street and walking to the courthouse. I do not believe Trammell Crow can properly foresee just how many cars the tenants will have and provide accordingly. I further do not believe this area will support their proposed rents. This in not Marina del Rey, and people paying $3,300 a month in rent are going to expect more in the way of entertainment than the Wild Goose!

Let the El Segundo Chamber of Commerce back a little re-zoning in its city and provide the much-need apartments.
